The International Monetary Fund plans to firmly back Iraq through a requested loan program while negotiations over financial assistance for Lebanon continue to make headway, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said on Saturday.
Speaking at a closing news conference during the IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok, Georgieva confirmed that Baghdad would receive both financial resources and guidance from the lender.
“We will get to Iraq both money and policy support,” Georgieva said regarding the assistance planned for the country.
Addressing the situation in Lebanon, Georgieva noted that talks with Lebanese authorities have been intense but reflect substantial progress toward reaching an agreement.
“We have made significant progress toward the program. We have still a bit more work to do together, and I’m confident we will be successful,” she said.
