Iranian armed forces launched drone strikes against bases belonging to an Iranian Kurdish opposition group in Iraq’s Kurdistan region, Tehran media reported on Sunday.
The strikes targeted facilities used by Komala in the Balisan area during an overnight assault, according to the Mehr news agency.
“As part of a drone operation carried out by the Revolutionary Guards’ ground forces, the headquarters of the terrorist and separatist group Komala, located in the Balisan region, was targeted last night,” the agency reported.
The Revolutionary Guards did not immediately issue a formal claim of responsibility for the latest strikes. Iran has repeatedly accused the opposition militants of receiving backing from Israel.
Iraq’s semi-autonomous northern territory hosts camps and outposts utilized by multiple Iranian Kurdish militant factions. Iranian forces have carried out repeated attacks against these sites since the outbreak of regional conflict in February.
Prior cross-border attacks on Komala have resulted in casualties, including an assault on July 17 near the city of Sulaymaniyah that left nine members of the group dead in the deadliest recent strike.
