Kicker Chad Ryland converted a career-high six field goals as the Arizona Cardinals secured an 18-16 upset victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, sending the former Super Bowl favourites to the bottom of the NFC West division.
Ryland accounted for all of Arizona's scoring at SoFi Stadium, hitting the decisive kick as time expired. The Rams had taken a late lead with 47 seconds remaining following a touchdown by Colby Parkinson and an extra point from punter Ethan Evans, who had stepped in after newly signed kicker Blake Grupe suffered a knee injury. "We've got to be able to figure it out and it starts with me," said the Rams' head coach Sean McVay after the defeat dropped his team below the Cardinals.
In Kansas City, the Chiefs preserved their undefeated start by defeating the Los Angeles Chargers 22-6. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes earned his 100th regular-season victory in his 131st career start, matching Tom Brady's league record. Running back Kenneth Walker rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns to take his league-leading tally to 665 rushing yards across his first five appearances with Kansas City.
The Philadelphia Eagles suffered a fourth consecutive loss, falling 25-14 at home to the Carolina Panthers. With starting quarterback Jalen Hurts placed on injured reserve due to a calf blood clot, back-up Tanner McKee made his third NFL start. Carolina tight end Tommy Tremble caught two touchdowns as Philadelphia recorded its first four-game losing run since Nick Sirianni took over as head coach in 2021.
At Wembley Stadium in London, Ka'imi Fairbairn kicked a late field goal to lift the Houston Texans to a 34-31 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the highest-scoring London fixture since 2015. Despite Jacksonville's defeat, two-way player Travis Hunter became the first NFL player since 2002 to record both an interception and a touchdown catch in the same game, completing both plays in the fourth quarter.
Elsewhere, the Cleveland Browns edged the Baltimore Ravens 13-10 to move into first place in the AFC North at 4-2. A fourth-quarter fumble by Baltimore running back Derrick Henry set up an Audric Estime touchdown before Andre Szmyt converted the winning kick. The Buffalo Bills improved to 5-1 with a 33-30 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, while the Chicago Bears defeated the Atlanta Falcons 31-23.
