Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed multiple cruise and ballistic missiles launched by Yemen's Houthi militia toward Riyadh and southern parts of the Kingdom, coalition officials said on Sunday.
Coalition spokesperson Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki said forces shot down two cruise missiles in the Riyadh and southern regions, alongside two ballistic missiles aimed at the capital. Air defense units had also intercepted another missile fired toward the Eastern Province earlier in the day.
Saudi Civil Defense authorities briefly issued alert warnings advising residents of potential dangers in Riyadh City and Najran Province, as well as Dammam City and the governorates of Buqayq and Al-Ahsa, before lifting the notices once the immediate threat subsided.
The coalition reported that at least 15 ballistic and cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles have been intercepted or destroyed across Saudi Arabia since the start of November. Recent incidents include a cruise missile downed near Riyadh on Saturday, two ballistic missiles intercepted over Najran on Friday, and drones destroyed across the Riyadh and Makkah regions on Nov. 6.
Earlier interceptions this month also neutralized aerial threats aimed at the Madinah, Eastern and southern regions. On Nov. 1, Al-Maliki announced coalition forces had conducted a precision operation targeting vital resources used by the Houthis to support ballistic missile and drone capabilities.
The aerial campaign follows earlier strikes on Saudi aviation and energy infrastructure that caused significant disruption. Operations at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh were suspended after October attacks killed and wounded civilians, prompting several international carriers to extend flight cancellations into November. Disruptions have also affected airports in Dammam, Abha and Najran.
The intensified Houthi attacks come amid broader regional hostilities linked to the US-Israeli war against Iran, which began on Feb. 28. Coalition leadership warned it would continue taking operational measures to deter further strikes and protect regional security.
