At least 38 people suffered minor injuries when part of a ceiling caved in at a store in Daegu, prompting emergency evacuations and hospital visits.

At least 38 people sustained minor injuries on Saturday when sections of a plaster ceiling fell inside a supermarket in the South Korean city of Daegu, emergency authorities said.

The collapse took place on the second floor of a four-story building and was reported at 10:16 a.m. Daegu Fire Department officials said 66 people evacuated the commercial premises safely after the incident.

Nine individuals were taken to local hospitals for medical attention. While emergency personnel noted that the overall injury tally could rise, fire department official Yoon Jong-mi stated it was highly unlikely that anyone had suffered severe injuries.

Emergency crews searched through debris across the retail floor following the collapse. Authorities said the underlying cause of the structural failure was not immediately clear.

The office of South Korean President Lee Jae Myung said the leader ordered officials to make every effort to assist people and manage a thorough response to the collapse.
