Yousaf Raza Gillani defeat Abdul Hafiz Sh in Senate Eelection

ISLAMABAD, March 03: Former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani, a joint candidate of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), on Wednesday won a general seat from Islamabad in Senate election 2021 by defeating ruling PTI’s candidate Abdul Hafeez Shaikh in a tough contest.

After the result was announced, Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and the former prime minister shook hands and hugged each other. The news of Hafeez’s defeat was told to him by Zain Qureshi — who was the minister’s polling agent

As per the unofficial results, Gillani got 169 votes whereas Abdul Hafiz Shaikh could only get 164 votes. Seven votes were rejected by the ECP officials.

The candidate of ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)  won woman seat in Senate from Federal Capital and secured 174 votes.

Farzana Kausar from PML-N and Fozia Arshad from PTI contested on woman seat from Federal Capital. PTI Candidate Fozia Arshad got 174 votes while PML-N Candidate Farzana Kausar got 161 votes. A total of five votes were rejected on woman seat.

Balochistan Assembly:

In the Balochistan Assembly all 65 members cast their votes, with the last vote cast by Mir Hamal Kalmati of the BNP.

Independent candidate Abdul Qadir, JUI-F’s Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, BNP’s Muhammad Qasim and ANP’s Arbab Umar Farooq have each been elected to a general seat.

BAP also scored a sizable victory with candidates Ahmed Kakar, Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti and Price Ahmed Umar Ahmed victorious on general seats.

Of the total seven candidates, whose results have so far been obtained, four were backed by the government, two from the Opposition and one was an independent candidate, backed jointly by the BAP and PTI.

Sindh Assembly

In the Sindh Assembly, 167 out of 168 members cast their votes as Jamaat-e-Islami member Abdul Rashid did not cast his vote. Out of the 167 ballot papers cast, four were rejected.

MQM’s candidate for a women’s seat Khalida Ateeb won with 57 votes, while PPP’s Palwasha Khan also won a women’s seat with 60 votes.

According to Election Commission sources, PPP’s Saleem Mandviwalla, Sherry Rehman and Jam Mehtab Dhar have also been elected.

Balochistan Assembly

In the Balochistan Assembly all 65 members cast their votes, with the last vote cast by Mir Hamal Kalmati of the BNP.

Independent candidate Abdul Qadir, JUI-F’s Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, BNP’s Muhammad Qasim and ANP’s Arbab Umar Farooq have each been elected to a general seat.

Punjab Assembly

However, In Punjab, there were 11 seats but thanks to the efforts of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) leadership all the senators have been elected unopposed. Therefore, there will be no polling was held in Punjab.
