WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup 2026: Australia, New Zealand stay unbeaten on Day 3; Denmark record first win

Australia and New Zealand are in control of their groups, while the battle for a spot in the Super Round is heating up.

Australia and New Zealand kept their unbeaten runs alive while Denmark grabbed a historic first victory as Day 3 of the WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup delivered drama in front of packed houses at 20 de Enero and Eduardo Porras stadiums. Group A: New Zealand in control, Czechia power past Argentina
New Zealand lead Group A with a flawless 3-0 record. Czechia and Japan sit one game back at 2-1 after key wins. Argentina and hosts Colombia are tied for fourth at 1-2, while South Africa remain winless. Czechia’s offense exploded with four home runs against Argentina. Tomas Trtilek set the tone early with a first-inning grand slam to fuel the win. Japan crushed South Africa 14-0 in four innings. Kanta Aso and Yohei Hoashi combined for a perfect game, striking out nine of 12 batters faced. Aso fanned five of six in his two innings, while Hoashi struck out four of six in relief. Group B: Aussies stay perfect, Denmark end seven-year drought
Australia remain the only undefeated team in Group B after a 2-0 shutout of Venezuela at 20 de Enero. Left-hander Jack Besgrove was untouchable again, allowing just two hits and one walk with 14 strikeouts to earn Player of the Day. He now leads the tournament with 41 strikeouts in 20 innings, three wins, and a 0.00 ERA.  Mexico and Venezuela are tied for second at 2-1 and meet Tuesday in a crucial showdown. Mexico outlasted Canada 7-6 in extra innings, powered by Alex Miranda’s two home runs, including a clutch three-run shot in the top of the eighth. Canada drop to 1-2, tied with Denmark.Denmark made history, beating Singapore 7-5 for their first-ever U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup win. It’s Denmark’s first Softball World Cup victory in almost seven years, since a 3-0 win over Cuba on 21 June 2019 at the WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup in Havlickuv Brod, Czechia.Super Round race heats up
With the Super Round approaching, every game matters. New Zealand and Australia control their groups, but the fight for second and third is wide open.
