LAHORE , Jun 17 :Pakistan’s renowned electronic media host, film actor, former member National Assembly Tariq Aziz passed away due to cardiac arrest in Lahore. He was 84.
The late Tariq Aziz began his professional career from Radio Pakistan Lahore and was one of the most recognizable voices on radio. He was the first announcer of PTV. His hosting skills on the show ‘Neelam Ghar’ made him a household name in Pakistan over the past four decades in the country, PTV news channel reported.
Tariq Aziz also acted in a number of Pakistani films in the late 1960s and 1970s in side-roles. One of his famous movies was Salgira (1969) which was a highly successful musical movie and won 2 Nigar Awards for that year Tariq Aziz was known for his work on PTV’s Quiz Show Neelam Ghar, first aired in 1974, later renamed the Tariq Aziz Show and also known as Bazm-e-Tariq Aziz.
A renowned poet, Aziz was also a former parliamentarian and a respected poet. He had been member of the National Assembly of Pakistan between 1997 and 1999. He also performed in various movies.
He was awarded Pride of Performance Award by the President of Pakistan in 1992 for his services to the nation.
President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed profound grief over thesad demise of renowned television and radio compere Tariq Aziz. In their separate condolence messages, the President and the Prime Minister paid tribute to Tariq Aziz for his immense contribution for the field of television.
President Alvi termed Tariq Aziz “an institution in his field”. The President offered condolence to the family of Tariq Aziz and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
Prime Minister Imran Khan in a tweet said, “Saddened to learn of the passing of Tariq Aziz, an icon in his time and a pioneer of our TV game shows.” “My condolences and prayers go to his family,” the prime minister wrote.
