India, Thailand’s joint military exercise kicks off today


India and Thailand’s joint military exercise ‘MAITREE-2019’ started in India’s north-east state of Meghalaya from September 16 and will be concluded on Sept 29.

Indian Army (IA) and Royal Thailand Army (RTA) comprising 50 soldiers each is participating in the exercise with an aim to share experience gained during various counter-terrorism operations in their respective countries.

According to an official statement, the joint military exercise will enhance the level of defence co-operation between IA and RTA which in turn will further foster defence cooperation and bilateral relations between the two nations.

The exercise ‘MAITREE’ is an annual training event which is being conducted alternatively in India and Thailand since 2006.
