Google and Facebook will pay the media, the world’s first unique law in Australia

News Inspection

Australian Parliament finally passes world’s first unique law after weeks of deliberations, under which companies like Google and Facebook will pay compensation to local journalists and broadcasters.

The Australian Parliament passed a new law on February 25, after which companies such as Google and Facebook will now compensate Australian journalists.

The Australian government announced the legislation late last year, after which Google and Facebook threatened to shut down operations in Australia, but Google later agreed to compensate the media.

But Facebook violated the rules by banning the sharing and publishing of all journalistic material in Australia on February 17.

Facebook and the Australian government later held talks and both agreed to some changes to the proposed law, after which Facebook also announced the lifting of the ban on journalistic content in Australia.

However, the ban has not yet been lifted by Facebook and now the Australian Parliament has passed the proposed laws.

After the laws were passed, Australian government officials expressed hope that Facebook like google would also compensate news organizations.
